The Undermountain Hobgoblins are groups of hobgoblins in the slums of the [[Undermountain]]. With the demonic incursion, the [[Minotaurs]] have largely withdrawn into the walls of [[Khor'minos]], leaving the other residents of the Deeplands to fend for themselves. [[Imps]] are roaming the caves and slumlords are price-gouging them on essential goods. To try and feed themselves, the Undermountain Hobgoblins you encounter have resorted to petty banditry. They have a particular resentment towards minotaurs, including [[Brint]] or [[Brienne]] if they're in your party.

As you're exploring the [[Undermountain]], if you have an appropriate background or high enough cunning you'll notice the shadows are just a ''bit'' too dark. The next moment, you're surrounded by scruffy looking figures wielding crude yet nasty looking improvised weapons. If [[Brint]] or [[Brienne]] are in the party they recognise them as [[Hobgoblins]], though the ones that would be hired as farmhands were better fed and better dressed. The hobgoblins explain that with the quarantine inside the city, everyone out in the slums has been left to dodge demons and try to feed themselves. And, well, they'd really like to be able to feed themselves, and you have such nice weapons and armour...

If you '''Pay''' the hobgoblins, they thank you, and reassure you that banditry isn't their main gig. There's not enough people travelling through the Undermountain for that to be viable anyway. If present, [[Brint]] or [[Brienne]] shake their heads at your soft-heartedness — banditry in punishable by execution in [[Khor'minos]], and you're just encouraging them by rewarding them for it. The hobgoblins let you pass without further incident, however.

If you choose '''No''', you end up in battle against a group of eight Hobgoblin Thieves and Thugs. If you're victorious, Brint or Brienne if present notes there isn't anything you can do with them. As overtaxed as the city is, they won't appreciate you bringing in random thieves to put out of their misery. If you're defeated, the hobgoblins rummage through your possessions, taking some credits as well as any food they can find. They tell you to just pay next time, and decide to drive the point home with an involuntary gangbang.

Future encounters with the hobgoblins go the same way, with the ragged thieves demanding 300 EC in payment to let you pass. You can choose to pay the 'Highway toll' or refuse, with the same results as before.
